Letter Text [sic]

Washington D.C.

Sir-

I return the inclosed original Certificate as it would not in my opinion be proper to give such on one.

The endorsement on back of the in-closed will show you how to correct our records so as to make them conform to those in the Gen. L. O. (General Land Office) here & the facts in the case.

The business of Congress pro-gresses slowly on account of the Oregon & other questions some of which, in my opinion are un-important & therefore not worthy of the attention of that body – e.g. the Webster matter, & &.  I hope that Iowa & Wisconsin may be admitted as States, with two Senators of course & two Reps each at the next session of Congress in Dec 1846.
