Henderson, David Bremner
Colonel David Bremner Henderson was a Civil War veteran, U.S. Congressman from Iowa, and the Speaker of the House of U.S. Representatives. He was the first Speaker born west of the Mississippi River and the last Civil War veteran to be Speaker of the House. It was largely through Rep. Henderson’s efforts that the National Parks Service was created started with Shiloh, where Henderson’s 12th Iowa Infantry sustained heavy casualties.
