Remarks: | Gary Peters and J.C. Martin arrived in Dubuque for their second year of professional baseball in 1957. Peters went on to win 1963 AL Rookie of the Year, was a 2x All-Star and 2x ERA Title winner. J.C. Martin spent most of his career with the Chicago White Sox with a two-year stop in New York to split catching duties with Jerry Grote. In 1969, Martin won a World Series catching Gary Gentry, Jerry Koosman, Nolan Ryan, Tug McGraw, and Tom Seaver with the Amazin’ Mets. Martin’s fellow Mets’ teammate Tommy Agee, a 2x All-Star and 2x Gold Glove winner and 1966 Rookie of the Year was on the 1961 Dubuque Packers with 4x All-Star Tommy John – both men’s first year in professional baseball. |
