  1. The photo shows the Crow Indian chief “Blackfoot”, aka “Sits In The Middle Of The Land”, but it´s probably not a Gardner photo. It was taken by William H. Jackson in 1871 at the first Crow Indian Agency, Fort Parker, on the Yellowstone. Jackson accompanied the geologist Ferdinand V. Hayden on his expedition to explore the upper Yellowstone area, what is now the Yellowstone National Park. This picture is a section of a bigger photo, which shows chief Blackfoot together with 4 other Crow Indian chiefs sitting in front of one of the agency buildings. Blackfoot was the principal chief of the Crow Indians at that time and one of the signatories of the Fort Laramie Treaty 1868. He died in 1877.
